On The Rice

Passion Behind Every Dish

Born from a rich heritage of culinary passion, the owners of On the Rice—Josh, Aaron, and Carlos—grew up immersed in the vibrant world of family-owned restaurants. This early influence naturally steered them towards a deep appreciation for all things culinary. In 2024, driven by their shared love for Asian cuisine, they decided to open On the Rice. Their vision was to create a dining experience that caters to diverse palates, while delivering exceptional customer service designed to bring joy to every patron.

On the Rice

Josh

Hi, I am Josh and I am 18 years old. I just may be one of the city’s youngest restaurant owners. I was born and raised here in Chattanooga, and grew up immersed in the restaurant world, observing the fundamentals of cooking and kitchen management from a young age. This lifelong passion for food naturally led me to pursue my dream of owning a restaurant with my best friends. I love what I do and that I am surrounded by great people. My personal favorite menu item is the K-Chicken Box or the fried chicken bowl.

Aaron

Hello, I am Aaron and the cousin of Josh. We are actually more like brothers because we grew up in the restaurant business together. I take a very hands-on approach to running On the Rice from cooking in the kitchen to what goes on behind the scenes like curating the highest quality ingredients for our dishes, to photographing and capturing those dishes for our website and social media. It was only natural with my early experience in restaurants to open my own spot with the people who are closest to me. I highly recommend the Korean BBQ short ribs and philly cheese beef egg rolls.

Carlos

Hey, I’m Carlos, one of the owners of On the Rice, a Korean spot all about great food, even better people, and an atmosphere that feels truly welcoming. I stay hands-on when I can, making sure everything runs smoothly, the portions hit, and everyone feels at home. We take pride in what we serve and always have a good time doing it. Pro tip: try the bulgogi bowl or the mozzarella corn dog with sugar-my personal favorites.

Reviews

“The food was fresh and delicious! It was our first time trying it and we have no complaints. They stayed busy from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out, definitely recommend and look forward to eating here again. Pictured are the Bulgogi Bowl with white rice/carrots. Korean Corn Dog Mozzarella with sugar on top (SO GOOD!) and the sweet and spicy chicken with fried rice bowl. The Milkis and banana milk drink were tasty as well but they have regular drink options as well.”

“Found this place a little over a year ago. Good food. Prepared as requested each time(allergy). Service has always been friendly. The price is just right for what you get. Have tried several dishes here, all are great. Looking forward to the next time I don't have to cook dinner.”

“Really like the food here, everything we've tried so far has been great. I'm obsessed with their chicken boxes. The chicken is so crispy on the outside, yet so juicy! I highly recommend it.”
